Mac’s Moments – Hungry

Married Thirty Years
Married Thirty Years

Hello to all,

It’s four o’clock, and I'm gathering the ingredients to feed my wife and daughter. Tammy, my loving wife of thirty years, opens the pantry doors and peruses the shelves for snacks.

“We are eating dinner in an hour,” I grumble at her.

“I know, but I am hungry now. I need a little snack,” as hunger pangs make her prickly.

“Why didn’t you eat lunch?” I query.

“I wasn’t hungry then, and I was working on a painting,” as she hoards a handful of chips.

She laughs at me because I make lunch at the same time every day. Lunch takes from ten to twenty minutes to prepare. Although I might not feel hungry initially, my appetite develops once the meal is ready. Yet there are days when she waits until she becomes crabby before looking for food. It is the fault of everyone else in the house that she didn’t eat at the prescribed time.

This doesn’t happen often, but it has happened many times over thirty years. The other confounding habit is peering into the refrigerator to determine what she is hungry for. How can somebody be starving and then decide there is nothing they want to eat?

I stressed out over this until it dawned on me that nowhere in the Bible does it say a husband is to understand his wife. Husbands are called to love their wives, hold them in reverence, and protect them. We don’t need to understand them; we just love them in the moment.

I want to thank everyone who reads my blogs. I hope they bring a little joy to your life. If you like my blogs, please subscribe for email distribution at www.dannymacauthor.com.

Grace to you,

Danny Mac
